At this point in my life, I have lived in NJ longer than I have not lived in NJ. Although I am not someone who grew up going to Seaside every summer, I have grown to love NJ beaches. Especially Asbury Park. I have spent so much time in Asbury over the last few years. When Pop-break.com asked me to cover the Sandy Benefit in Asbury last Wed, I was thrilled to do it.
Dubbed, "On The Beach" it took place at The Paramount Theater and it was filled with incredible performances. Hosted by NJ's own Matt Pinfield, it was a full night of fantastic music. Performers included River City Extension, Nicole Atkins, Joseph Arthur, an incredible acoustic performance of Brian Fallon from The Gaslight Anthem, Steve Earle and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. And the night was capped off with a stellar show from My Morning Jacket.
Walking outside of The Paramount Theater and seeing the Asbury Park boardwalk that is still trashed from Sandy, you couldn't help but be reminded of all the destruction up and down the East Coast. Definitely a benefit that hit close to home, to help out those hit the hardest.
