On Saturday night one of the biggest stars in country music came to PNC Bank Arts Center for an extremely sold out show. CMT Vocalist of the year Luke Bryan brought his Dirt Road Diaries Tour to NJ. Judging by all the cowboy hats, boots, and the lifted trucks everywhere, people were ready to get down.
The night started out with the country group Florida-Georgia Line getting the energy flowing. Led by Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard, FGL are making a name for themselves and they clearly had more than a couple fans in the audience.
Thompson Square was the next group up to play this beautiful night. Led by the husband-wife team of Keifer and Shawna Thompson, they picked up right where FGL left off. It is clear to see how the love in their lyrics is reflected in the relationship of the two people singing these songs.
I wasn't sure what to expect when Luke Bryan took the stage, but the thundering roar of screams took me a bit by surprise. He came out from under the stage, and the screams got even louder.
I have never seen Bryan play before, but I was impressed. He did everything he could to make everyone feel like a part of the show. Which included passing out beers and moonshine to the adults in the front row at various times. He really made it feel like a summer party all night.
All reviews of this show have to mention a little 6 year old girl Kylie. He pulled her from the crowd and she danced and sang along with him for a whole song. She knew all the words and he was impressed with how confident she was. He absolutely made her night, and made a life-long fan.
It was an amazing night for everyone. Somehow, it also felt like the end of summer. It felt like that you would leave the Luke Bryan show and there would immediately be pumpkin spice coffee in the parking lot. It didn't exactly go like that, but either way, it was an amazing summer night in NJ. One more for the PNC books.
