On Wednesday night, Paramore, came to NYC and played an amazing show at Madison Square Garden. They brought their "Self Titled" tour to thousands of fans and filled the set with 21 hits. It is incredible how this band from Tennessee built a career over the last 9 years that led them to the one of the most famous stages in the world.
While both Hellogoodbye and Metic did an excellent job of getting everyone on their feet, the explosion of energy that moved through the audience when Paramore took over was amazing. Taking the staged below the 3 bars that has now become their trademark, they launched into Grow Up while singer Hayley Williams danced across the stage, wearing a leather jacket with those words spray painted on the back.
The night was filled with hits, with dancing and powerful moments. But it was also filled with gratitude from a band thankful to be able to grace Madison Square Garden's stage, and from the thousands of fans at the show. Before the quiet In The Mourning/Landslide (cover) mix, Williams addressed the crowd. She spoke of the bands past, losing members, and almost giving up. But she also spoke of how thankful she was to be able to look left or right and see her best friends: Jeremy Davis and Taylor York. Props to them as well for their part in this incredible show.
Williams brought a fan up on stage to help her sing Misery Business. That fan sang the song with gusto, then did a split, which Williams promptly matched.
It really was an amazing show. Capped off with balloons falling from the ceiling, and confetti cannons exploding all over the place. As Williams, Davis and York gave their final bow, it was clear that they would be back sooner rather than later. And NYC would be there with open arms.
