I have seen The Used enough times to know that you never really know what you are going to be in for. For Warped Tour's stop at PNC Bank Arts Center this year, they again made sure everyone would be talking about them long after the show was over.
Before they even took the stage people filed out all wearing masks and they stood in a line. Then the band came out wearing masks as well, multicolored ski masks with eye and mouth holes cut out- a not so subtle little reminder that members of Pussy Riot are still locked up.
Singer Bert McCracken then took the stage, calmly came to the edge, then proceeded to throw pink and green powder all over the front 3 rows. The kind that you get at the Color Run. The kind that gets all over everything. Yeah. Despite the fact that I was completely covered, I was able to photograph their amazing set.
Before their 2nd song Bert brought someone on stage who was celebrating her birthday. It turned out that she was the daughter of Kevin Lyman- founder of Warped. Bert asked the crowd to crowd surf her birthday cake to the back of the crowd, then back to the front. As expected, the cake made it for about 15 seconds before it fell apart.
All in a days work at Warped Tour.
